CDA has developed training programs for Do No Harm and Reflecting on Peace Practice based on the findings of the collaborative learning projects.

CDA can help organizations find trainers, particularly for Do No Harm training.

CDA staff also are often available to run training sessions.

Exposure (EXP)

(1-3 days)

This workshop provides a broad exposure to the lessons learned by Do No Harm and the concepts and elements of the DNH Framework. It raises awareness that humanitarian assistance can exacerbate conflict. It also raises awareness that a tool exists to recognize and understand the patterns of assistance in conflict, and that through identifying the patterns, we can identify options for addressing these issues.

Training-For-Use (TFU)

(4-7 days)

This workshop provides a broad exposure to the "Do No Harm" concepts, while also offering the opportunity to begin working with them. Participants practice applying the DNH Framework as a program level analysis tool. Participants learn how to identify negative impacts, and how to generate options to address issues at the program level. Participants will discuss ways to disseminate basic lessons and concepts of DNH to others in their organization(s).

Field Training (FT)

(4-14 + days)

Participants will work with Do No Harm Project staff or consultant to do field assessments of their own programmes. Participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the issues on site when they observe negative impacts

  2. Analyze why and how a program may be having these negative impacts

  3. Generate and select options appropriate to their context and program

  4. Monitor the impacts of selected options

Training-of-Trainers (TOT)

(6 days workshop and 3 days observed leading a workshop)

This workshop trains participants in presenting the "Do No Harm" concepts and the DNH Framework as a tool for program level analysis. Participants will be able to lead their own Introductory and Training Workshops.
